Shamar Joseph sidelined from ILT20 due to injury

West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph will miss his ILT20 stint with Dubai Capitals as a result of a toe injury sustained during the Gabba Test. 

Despite scans showing no fracture after being struck on the boot by a Mitchell Starc delivery, Joseph experienced discomfort on the fourth day.

Even after this, he delivered an outstanding performance, claiming 7 wickets for 68 runs to help secure West Indies' historic eight-run victory in Australia.

Initially, Joseph was not expected to play, but after being administered painkillers by the team physio, he insisted on taking the field. He bowled impressively, maintaining speeds of nearly 150kph throughout his spell, vowing to continue until the last wicket fell.

Expected to join the ILT20 directly after the Australia tour, Joseph will now return home for recovery before heading to the PSL where Peshawar Zalmi has picked him. 

Despite a promising start to his career, including dismissing Steven Smith with his first delivery and securing two five-wicket hauls, Joseph remains committed to representing West Indies in Test cricket above all else.

Joseph's heroics at the Gabba earned him widespread praise and attention, with calls for measures to protect his workload and prevent burnout. While he was not slated for the white-ball leg of the Australia tour, he remains a potential contender for the T20 World Cup in June and is set to feature in the Test series against England in July.
