In a thrilling T20 Blast match at Headingley, Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood remarkably survived both a hit-wicket and a run-out on the same delivery during a clash between Yorkshire Vikings and Lancashire Lightning on Thursday.

Masood, leading Yorkshire, played a crucial innings, scoring 61 runs off 41 balls, helping his team set a total of 173/8. The dramatic incident unfolded on the first ball of the 15th over, bowled by Jack Blatherwick. Masood, on 58 at the time, accidentally stepped on his stumps off a no-ball and was then seemingly run out mid-pitch, believing the ball was dead.

However, on-field umpires James Middlebrook and Graham Lloyd ruled him not out under Law 31.7, which covers a “batter leaving the wicket under a misapprehension.”

The law states: “An umpire shall intervene if satisfied that a batter, not having been given out, has left the wicket under a misapprehension of being out. The umpire intervening shall call and signal Dead ball to prevent any further action by the fielding side and shall recall the batter.”

Masood was eventually dismissed in the following over, caught behind off Saqib Mahmood, after adding three more runs to his score. His dynamic knock, which included eight boundaries and three sixes, earned him the Man of the Match award as Yorkshire secured a narrow seven-run victory.
