Shane Watson has emerged as a strong contender for the coveted position of head coach for the Pakistan national cricket team.

The former Australian cricketer is currently serving as the head coach for the Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing ninth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Sources reveal that discussions are underway between Shane Watson and officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the possibility of him taking on the crucial role of leading the national team.

Pending the finalization of the agreement, Watson is expected to meet with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to formalize the terms of both short-term and long-term arrangements.

Upon reaching an agreement, an official announcement of his appointment may soon follow.

Should the negotiations prove successful, it would mark Shane Watson's first opportunity to coach an international team.

His first coaching assignment, if appointed, will involve a series against New Zealand, with the schedule for this series anticipated to be unveiled in the coming week.

The impending visit by the New Zealand cricket team is set to include five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches in April, with the Kiwi squad expected to arrive in Pakistan on April 14 and the first T20I match scheduled for April 18.
