India's vice-captain, Shubman Gill, was asked about the rumors regarding Rohit Sharma's retirement from ODI cricket
As the Champions Trophy final approaches, speculation about Indian captain Rohit Sharma's retirement from ODI cricket has intensified.
Before the final at Dubai Cricket Stadium, India's vice-captain, Shubman Gill, was asked about the rumors regarding Rohit Sharma's retirement from ODI cricket. Shubman Gill had to address the issue twice — once during the press conference and then again after the conference ended when he returned to the press room to clarify his earlier statement.
During the press conference, when asked about Rohit Sharma's retirement from the 50-over format, Shubman Gill replied, "Maybe Rohit Sharma will decide on his future after the Champions Trophy final."
He further added, "As of now, there has been no discussion in the dressing room regarding Rohit Sharma’s retirement."
Shubman also mentioned, "In the dressing room, we are only talking about winning the Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma hasn’t shared anything about his retirement plans, neither with me nor with the team."
It’s worth noting that Rohit Sharma had announced his retirement from the T20I format after leading India to victory in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
