Pakistan's right-handed batter Sidra Ameen has registered history in the Women's World Cup after smashing a century against Bangladesh today at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

The 29-year-old became the first Pakistan batter to score a century in the competition's history. She scored 104 off 140 balls with the help of eight fours.

Sidra also broke the record previously held by fellow opening partner, Nahida Khan, who scored 79 runs against South Africa in the 2017 edition.

Her brilliant century went in vain as Bangladesh managed to restrict Pakistan to 225/9 while defending 234.

Sidra opened the innings for Pakistan and was involved with Nahida Khan (43) and skipper Bismah Maroof (31) in two significant partnerships. The Girls in Green looked set to claim their first win but collapsed horribly, losing five wickets from a total of 183 to 188. Sidra, however, tried to stay till the end but was also run out in the 48th over.

Highest individual scores for Pakistan in Women’s World Cup:

  • Nida Dar - 68* (83) vs India in 2013
