Zimbabwean cricketer Sikandar Raza has come forth to laud the captaincy skills of Shaheen Afridi, despite Lahore Qalandars' lackluster performance in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season.

Speaking to media, Raza highlighted the misconception surrounding the evaluation of a captain's worth solely based on match results.

According to Raza, Afridi's leadership extends beyond the outcome on the field, encompassing his ability to make strategic decisions that affect individual players' roles within the team.

"I feel that Shaheen's captaincy is better this year. The captain's contribution shouldn't be judged solely by match results as much as people think. The reason for this is that if I'm bowling and Shaheen decides to let me bowl, he won't come to bowl in my place. And if Shaheen decides to let someone else bat, he won't come to bat in their place either," Raza said.

Despite Qalandars' struggles in the tournament, with all matches resulting in losses except for one washed-out game, Raza believes Afridi has displayed exemplary leadership qualities throughout the season.

"So while cricket is a team game, it is still very individually oriented. So I feel that Shaheen has actually did the best captaincy this year. The way he has managed players off the field, controlled emotions, and brought everyone together. Winning makes captaincy easy; it's in defeat that your character is revealed. I feel he has been the best captain this year," Raza said.

It is worth noting that Qalandars have massively struggled in the tournament thus far, with all matches resulting in losses except for one washed-out game, currently lying at the bottom of the table.
