Pakistan middle-order batsman Haris Sohail has been ruled out of the ongoing Test and upcoming ODI series against South Africa.

According to reports, Sohail has failed to recover from the recurring knee injury — which he suffered during the third day of the tour match in South Africa.

Sohail went through a medical checkup on Wednesday, after which it was determined that he needs to be spend three to four weeks on the sidelines in order to fully recover from the injury.

The left-handed batsman is likely to return home on Friday and will begin his rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) next week.

Sohail was replaced by opener Shan Masood in the lineup for the first Test against South Africa in Centurion.

It must be noted that Sohail is returning home — without playing in South Africa — for the second time in his career. He was unfortunate to suffer the same fact during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa in 2013.

The 29-year-old has represented Pakistan in 10 Tests and 26 ODIs over the course of his brief career.
