Nortje, a key part of South Africa’s pace attack, had to withdraw from the tournament due to a recurring back injury
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced that fast-bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch will replace the injured Anrich Nortje in the squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9.
Nortje, a key part of South Africa’s pace attack, had to withdraw from the tournament due to a recurring back injury. Initially, Gerald Coetzee was considered as his replacement and was even named in South Africa’s squad for the tri-nation ODI series. However, he was also ruled out after experiencing groin tightness during training.
With Coetzee unavailable, CSA has confirmed Bosch as the replacement. The 30-year-old made his ODI and Test debut against Pakistan in December last year. He had an impressive start to his Test career, scoring an unbeaten 81 in the first innings and taking five wickets in the match. In his ODI debut, he picked up one wicket and scored 40 not out.
Alongside Bosch, CSA has also added young pacer Kwena Maphaka as a traveling reserve for the tournament.
Bosch, Maphaka, and top-order batter Tony de Zorzi will travel to Pakistan today to join the squad for the remaining matches of the tri-nation series before the Champions Trophy begins.
