The partnership between De Kock and Rossouw is now the highest-ever partnership for any wicket in the history of the T20 World Cup. Their 168-run partnership surpassed the previous record of 166 runs set by Sri Lankan legends Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene against West Indies in the 2010 World Cup.

Thursday's T20 World Cup Super 12 Group 2 encounter between South Africa and Bangladesh at the Sydney Cricket Ground was a triumph for the Proteas as they overcame the frustrations of the previous day's washout against Zimbabwe. Rilee Rossouw and Quinton de Kock led the assault after South Africa's skipper Temba Bavuma was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed in the opening over.

The third over of South Africa's innings began to swing the match in their favor. Two no-balls were bowled by Taskin, after which de Kock smacked him for a six and seized the initiative. Soon after, Rossouw joined him, and the aggressive left-handers began to maximize the powerplay. After the first six overs, they had reached 63 for one.

In the eleventh over, Shakib Al Hasan was hammered for 21 runs, resulting in a change in momentum. Rossouw hit the skipper of Bangladesh for two sixes and a four.
South Africa's record for the highest partnership in the inaugural T20 World Cup was set by Herschelle Gibbs and Justin Kemp, who put on 120*.

The pair hit the ball 14 times to the fence and 11 times over it. However, de Kock's innings terminated after 15 overs.

The Proteas' innings slowed down a bit after the next hitter, Tristan Stubbs, departed, and Rossouw inched closer to the century mark.
