Sri Lanka's spinner Maheesh Theekshana will be available for selection for Sri Lanka in their second World Cup game against Pakistan on Tuesday, as confirmed by assistant coach Naveed Nawaz.

"He's fit and should play tomorrow," Nawaz said in pre-match press conference. "Didn't want to risk him in the first game against medical advice but he should be ready here."

Theekshana was sidelined in Sri Lanka's first match against South Africa, where they faced a formidable challenge. Aiden Markram's blistering performance led to the fastest century in Men's Cricket World Cup history, propelling South Africa to a record-breaking total of 428/5. This score surpassed the previous highest total in a Men's Cricket World Cup, which was 417/6 set by Australia against Afghanistan in 2015.

Although Sri Lanka mounted a spirited counterattack with aggressive batting, they fell short of the colossal target, ultimately losing the match by 102 runs.

The team is now anticipating Theekshana's return to strengthen their bowling arsenal for the upcoming clash against Pakistan in Hyderabad.
