Hobart Hurricanes have bolstered their squad for the Global Super League (GSL) 2025 by signing Pakistan leg-spinner Usama Mir, along with Sri Lanka's Bhanuka Rajapaksa and West Indies all-rounder Fabian Allen.

The franchise announced the signings on Friday through its official social media channels, saying: "Our GSL squad gets even stronger with more talented overseas players joining the ‘Cane Train 🚂"

This marks Usama Mir’s first appearance in the GSL, though the 29-year-old is no stranger to franchise cricket. He has previously played in several top leagues, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Big Bash League (BBL), The Hundred, Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

In his T20 career, Usama has played 152 matches and taken 171 wickets at an economy rate of 7.75. He has also represented Pakistan in five T20 Internationals, picking up five wickets.

The Hurricanes, led by Ben McDermott, had earlier picked two other Pakistani players — Mohammad Nawaz and Sahibzada Farhan. However, their participation in the tournament remains uncertain, as both are currently attending a national training camp at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi.

The camp is part of Pakistan’s preparation for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which starts on July 20 in Dhaka. The Hobart Hurricanes have not yet commented on whether Nawaz and Farhan will be available or if replacements will be named.

The 2025 edition of the Global Super League got underway on Thursday, with Dubai Capitals beating Central Districts by 22 runs. Defending champions Rangpur Riders also started strong, securing a narrow eight-run win over Guyana Amazon Warriors.
