At the close of play on the fourth day, Pakistan were at 23/1 after 10 overs, trailing by 94 runs
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan expressed optimism on Saturday, stating that his team could secure their first-ever Test victory against Pakistan if they manage to take early wickets on the fifth morning.
After the fourth day of the Rawalpindi Test, Bangladesh was in a strong position, holding a 117-run lead in the first innings, largely due to Mushfiqur Rahim's impressive knock of 191, which helped the team amass a total of 565 runs.
At the close of play on the fourth day, Pakistan were at 23/1 after 10 overs, trailing by 94 runs, with opener Saim Ayub dismissed for just 1.
Mehidy highlighted the importance of the first hour on the final day, stating, "If our bowlers perform well in the first hour tomorrow, we'll be in a strong position. We're not looking too far ahead, but early wickets could give us a real chance at winning."
"We got a good lead, and now we need to bowl in the right areas and pick up early wickets. The bowlers did well in the last hour," he added.
He also praised Bangladesh's overall performance, particularly their batting, and credited Mushfiqur for his monumental innings.
"Mushfiq bhai and I had a good partnership. Credit goes to him for batting brilliantly and supporting me throughout. He kept telling me it was an excellent wicket and to keep playing well.
"We're really happy because it's been a long time since we scored over 500 runs. The boys played really well. Shadman scored 93, and Litton Kumar Das also batted well. Not everyone will score, but some need to take responsibility like Mushfiq bhai did. We're in a good position and very happy," he added.
