Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has expressed his frustration and pointed fingers at certain players for Pakistan's recent defeat against India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
In an exclusive interview with a local sports channel, Butt did not mince his words as he dissected the match and highlighted key moments that, in his view, led to Pakistan's downfall.
"The Pakistan team always finds a way to lose the match. Rizwan had one job, and that was to bat till the end," Butt said.
The former cricketer was particularly critical of the shot selection by several Pakistani batsmen, which he believed was a major factor in their defeat.
In my opinion, India got out for 119 runs because of their extravagant shots; otherwise, they could have scored 140-150 on this pitch. They played a lot of poor shots to get out, but so did Pakistan. But Pakistan, they just manage to ruin their own match. I mean, Iftikhar got out on a full toss, Fakhar Zaman played a poor shot, Imad Wasim stepped back and tried to hit, Shadab did the same thing, it seems like they are so limited, you are such an easy team to be walked out," he said.
Pakistan will aim for their first two points when they face Canada on Tuesday in New York. Group A’s next match is set for Tuesday, June 11, between Pakistan and Canada in New York.
