Iftikhar Ahmed, a middle-order hitter for Pakistan, has discussed his batting strategies and criticism regarding his strike rate.

In an exclusive interview with a local media outlet, the 32-year-old stated that he bats according to the conditions of the match.

“People criticise my strike rate, but the team management has asked me to build my innings following the situation of the match. If the top order gets out early, I try to stay in the middle for a long time. Sometimes I need to start hitting as soon as I go out to bat,” he said.

It should be mentioned that Ahmed, with 113 runs in four innings and a strike rate of 134.52, is now leading Pakistan in T20 World Cup scoring.

Ahead of Pakistan's final group-stage match against Bangladesh on Sunday, Ahmed also discussed Pakistan's chances of making the semifinals.

“The team is in good spirits after winning against South Africa. Hopefully, we can increase our points tally to six with a win against Bangladesh,” he said. “Please pray for us to qualify for the semi-finals.”

Pakistan must defeat Bangladesh on November 6 to advance to the semifinals, and they must that the remaining match of South Africa and India go their way.

If Pakistan wins against Bangladesh and India is upset by Zimbabwe, then Pakistan and India will tie on the points table with six points each. Pakistan will qualify for the semis if that’s the case since they have a better NRR than India at this stage, as they’ve +1.117 compared to India’s +0.730.
