Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed produced a stunning spell, claiming 7-19, to surpass Pakistan's Mohammad Amir and set a new record for the best bowling figures in the history of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The remarkable performance came during a match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Thursday.
The 29-year-old, representing Durbar Rajshahi, dismantled Dhaka Capital's batting lineup, taking three wickets in the final over to achieve the record-breaking feat. Taskin’s spell restricted Dhaka Capital to 174-9 in their innings. In reply, Durbar Rajshahi comfortably chased down the target in 18.1 overs with skipper Anamul Haque leading the way with an unbeaten 73.
Before Taskin’s heroics, Mohammad Amir held the record for the best bowling figures in the BPL. The Pakistan pacer had claimed 6-17 for Khulna Tigers against Sylhet Royals in the 2020 edition of the league.
Taskin’s figures also rank as the third-best in T20 cricket globally. Malaysia’s Syazrul Idrus holds the record with an extraordinary 7-8 against China in a T20I match in 2023. Meanwhile, Netherlands' Colin Ackermann is in second place with figures of 7-18, achieved while representing Leicestershire in the Vitality Blast against Birmingham Bears.
