Tayyab Tahir has cleared the air regarding the unfortunate injury to New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra during the first match of the tri-nation series
Pakistan’s middle-order batter Tayyab Tahir has cleared the air regarding the unfortunate injury to New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra during the first match of the tri-nation series between Pakistan and New Zealand. There were speculations that the floodlights at Gaddafi Stadium may have played a role in the incident, but Tahir was quick to dismiss these concerns.
Fielding at deep square leg in the 37th over, Ravindra lost sight of the ball while attempting to catch a slog-sweep from Khushdil Shah. The ball struck him hard on the forehead, causing blood to stream down his face as he walked off the field, leaving the crowd in stunned silence.
Addressing the floodlight speculations, Tayyab Tahir explained, "The second thing is about the lights. I don't think there was any issue with the lights. You probably asked because the ball hit Ravindra, but it wasn’t because of the lights. The ball was on this side (indicating the ball was low and flat towards the fielder). It wasn’t that high or in the air, so there was no issue with the lights."
The incident occurred in the 38th over, bowled by Michael Bracewell. Following the blow, Ravindra immediately left the field holding a towel to his face. A stretcher was brought onto the field, and the Pakistan physio assisted him. Despite the injury, Ravindra displayed remarkable resilience, walking off the field on his own and receiving a standing ovation from the crowd for his bravery.
