Bavuma also praised debutant Kwena Maphaka, who played a vital role in the match
South African captain Temba Bavuma expressed his satisfaction with the team’s 2-0 series victory over Pakistan, calling the result "quite satisfying." Reflecting on the team's performance, Bavuma acknowledged the challenges they faced but praised their efforts throughout the series.
“The result pleases me the most,” Bavuma said. “It’s satisfying because you doubt certain decisions at times. There was some assistance for the new bowlers, but the pitch flattened out as the match progressed,” he added.
Bavuma also praised debutant Kwena Maphaka, who played a vital role in the match. “It’s very pleasing to have him in the team. He wants to be in the fight and be a part of the contest, which is exactly what we need,” he said.
Looking ahead, Bavuma mentioned the team’s excitement for the upcoming World Test Championship final at Lord's. “The guys are looking forward to it, but for now, we’ll enjoy this moment and celebrate the win,” he further added.
Marco Jansen, named Player of the Series, was pleased with his performance but admitted he didn’t expect the award. “I try to make a positive impact on the team in any situation,” Jansen said. “When things aren’t going well, you make a plan and try to get the result. That’s what we all strive for. I felt good with the bat; my 60-odd runs felt really good, and I was seeing the ball well,” he added.
Ryan Rickelton, Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, shared his joy over the win. “I’m over the moon with the side getting the win,” he said. “Reflecting on the first two days, it still hasn’t sunk in, but over time, I’ll look back at it very fondly,” he added.
Opening the innings, Rickelton faced a mental challenge, especially against the new ball. “It was tough, but I trusted myself and focused on staying in the moment. When I got into a groove, I tried not to get ahead of myself and just focus on the job at hand,” he explained.
Rickelton also noted the incredible support from the crowd, adding, “I felt the vibe and the atmosphere, they were behind me the whole way. It was a special occasion with my family here, and it made this Test match unforgettable,” he further explained.
Regarding his injury, Rickelton mentioned a slight strain but remains hopeful for recovery. “It’s a slight strain, and we’re monitoring it. Hopefully, I’ll be ready for Thursday,” Rickelton said.
