The upcoming T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan has sparked controversy over ticket prices, with some seats reportedly being offered for as high as $20,000 (Rs. 5566180) per seat.

The match is set to take place on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, part of the tournament co-hosted by the United States and the Caribbean Islands.

Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi expressed shock at the exorbitant prices, criticizing the International Cricket Council (ICC) for prioritizing profits over promoting the game. The ICC defended its pricing structure, noting that tickets for the competition range from $300 (sold out) to $10,000.

Modi tweeted, “Shocked to learn that ICC is selling tickets for Diamond Club at $20000 per seat for the #indvspak WC game. The WC in the US is for game expansion & fan engagement, not a means to make profits on gate collections. $2750 for a ticket It’s just #notcricket #intlcouncilofcrooks.”

The demand for tickets for India-Pakistan cricket matches has historically been immense, often leading to inflated prices on the secondary market. This rivalry has been intensified by the lack of a bilateral series between the two countries since 2013 due to political tensions.

Pakistan kicks off its journey in Dallas, facing co-host USA on June 6, then playing against India on June 9 and Canada on June 12 in New York. Their last league match against Ireland is scheduled for June 16 in Florida.
