Head has mostly batted at No. 5 in Test cricket but has opened in five innings, scoring 223 runs with an impressive average of 55.75
Travis Head delivered an outstanding performance in the first ODI against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Thursday. His remarkable knock of 154 not out off 129 balls led Australia to a comfortable seven-wicket victory, putting them ahead 1-0 in the three-match series.
After the match, Head expressed his excitement about the ongoing discussions regarding his potential promotion to Australia’s Test opener. With David Warner's retirement, Australia experimented by placing Steve Smith at the top of the order. However, Smith has struggled, averaging just 28.50 from eight innings in that role.
When asked about his desire to open in Test matches, Head chose not to commit but welcomed the speculation.
"Keep the chatter: it makes it interesting. I'm not going to dive into that. I'll just let that play out. I've worked extremely hard over a few years and I probably play the game a bit more relaxed now. I take it for what it is and try to enjoy what I'm doing. It's coming off in the way I'm playing,” Head said.
Head has mostly batted at No. 5 in Test cricket but has opened in five innings, scoring 223 runs with an impressive average of 55.75, including a high score of 90 in Ahmedabad. Australia is set to host India for five Test matches starting in November, making the choice of opening batsmen crucial for the upcoming series.
