The middle-order batsman last represented Pakistan in the longest format of the game in 2009
Twitter erupted on Saturday as Pakistan’s middle-order batsman Fawad Alam, after a decade-long wait, finally returned to the national side’s Test fold after being named in the squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka on home soil.
The 34-year-old replaced Iftikhar Ahmed, who managed only 44 runs in four innings in the recent tour of Australia where Pakistan lost both Tests.

Fawad played the last of his three Test matches in New Zealand in 2009 and was last seen in Pakistan colours in a 2015 One-day International (ODI) in Bangladesh.
The left-hander has been in red-hot form during the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and was justly rewarded with a place in the Pakistan team.
"Alam has been performing so well at the domestic level so we have recalled him for a chance and we hope he delivers," said Misbah, who is the team's head coach-cum-chief selector.
Fans on Twitter were delighted at the development and a trend was created on the social media website.
