The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is investigating allegations that Sussex bowler Ari Karvelas used discriminatory language towards former Pakistan batter currently representing Leicestershire, Umar Amin, during a County Championship match.

According to a foreign cricket magazine, Karvelas is alleged to have remarked to Amin, "Send him back to the village he came from," after he was dismissed in the second innings. Amin played a knock of 94 runs off 185 deliveries in the second innings of the match.

The ECB has confirmed that it is aware of the allegations and that an investigation is underway.  Once the investigation is complete, the ECB will decide whether to take any disciplinary action against Karvelas.

Earlier, Leicestershire signed former Amin for their County Championship run-in. The 33-year-old played four Test matches and made 30 white-ball appearances for Pakistan, the last of which came in January 2018. Amin averages 41.13 in first-class cricket.
