A bizarre episode unfolded during the second Australia-Pakistan Test at the MCG, leaving players and fans perplexed. After lunch, as everyone geared up for the afternoon session, play remained strangely paused. The reason? The esteemed third umpire, Richard Illingworth, was trapped in an elevator!

With Warner and Smith ready to take their positions, the on-field umpires wouldn't let a ball fly. Apparently, a functioning third umpire was crucial for the game to proceed. Minutes ticked by, leaving everyone in a curious limbo.

Finally, the fourth umpire, Phil Gillespie, sprang into action, dashing from the boundary to temporarily fill the vacant box. Just then, Illingworth emerged from the elevator, offering a jovial wave as he resumed his rightful seat.

This seven-minute delay, though brief, injected a dose of lightheartedness into the intense match. Cricket Australia and the MCG chimed in with playful tweets, acknowledging the peculiar situation. Cricket Australia tweeted, "The game is delayed because the third umpire...is stuck in the lift," while the MCG responded with a simple, "Sorry."
