Pakistan's dynamic opening duo, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, hailed as the best in T20I cricket, are currently facing criticism for their recent performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The pair, known for their remarkable consistency over the past four years, have found themselves under pressure as Pakistan battles to stay in the tournament.

Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam have forged an incredible partnership since 2021, amassing 5,329 runs together at an average of 44.4. Their success includes leading Pakistan to a historic victory over India in the T20 World Cup 2021, where they chased down a target of 152 runs without losing a wicket – Pakistan's first win against India in World Cup history. This feat cemented their status as one of the most formidable opening pairs in T20 cricket.

Despite their impressive records, Rizwan and Babar's strike rates have come under scrutiny. According to ESPN Cricinfo, their combined strike rate stands at 129.5, which is only marginally better than the other Pakistani batters, who collectively have a strike rate of 128.5.

In the ongoing T20 World Cup, Rizwan and Babar have struggled to make an impact. In their opening match against the United States, Babar managed 44 runs off 43 balls, but Pakistan could only muster 159-7. The USA chased down the target, forcing a Super Over, where they eventually triumphed. Rizwan's contribution was a mere nine runs, adding to the disappointment.

The match against India was equally challenging for the duo. Babar was dismissed early by Jasprit Bumrah, scoring just 13 runs. Rizwan, though seemingly poised to guide Pakistan to victory, was also undone by Bumrah, scoring a sluggish 31 off 44 balls. Pakistan's defeat in both matches has put them in a precarious position in the tournament.

Today, Pakistan faces a must-win match against Canada at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. A loss would result in their elimination from the World Cup, putting immense pressure on Rizwan and Babar to deliver.
