Former West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara has selected co-hosts USA over the 2009 World Cup-winning Pakistan team to qualify for the Super 8 round of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

In a recent interview with a local sports platform, Lara expressed his confidence in the USA team's chances.

"Of course, mathematically, they (Pakistan) have a chance," Lara said.

"I think the USA just got to take care of a win in their last game. They do that, and they qualify. But we’re hoping that they get to win, plus the USA lose their game. So my money is on the USA, I think they’re full of confidence, and they would want to make it to the Super 8. That will be so huge, historic for US cricket," he added.

It's worth noting that the Men in Green lost their first two matches of the mega-event tournament against the USA and India, but they secured a victory over Canada in their third group stage match. Pakistan will face Ireland in their last group match, and they need to win by a good margin to claim four points with a strong net run rate.

Pakistan's qualification will also depend on the result of today's match between the USA and Ireland. A win for Ireland would boost Pakistan's chances of advancing.
