Harbhajan Singh labels Pakistan 'Undeserving' of Super 8 spot in T20 World Cup

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has voiced strong criticism of Pakistan's performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, stating that they do not deserve to qualify for the Super 8 stage due to their lackluster gameplay.

In an interview at a local sports channel, Harbhajan expressed his disappointment with Pakistan's cricketing efforts in the tournament.

“The Pakistan cricket team had their fate in their own hands and the kind of cricket they have played (in the T20 World Cup 2024), they were not deserving to progress (in the tournament),” Harbhajan said.

The 43-year-old went on to commend the USA for their impressive run in the tournament, calling them a better team than Pakistan.

“The USA played better cricket than them. They played one match twice on the same day first of 20 overs then of six balls, and defeated Pakistan in both. They won outstandingly and it was not a fluke,” he said.

Looking ahead to Pakistan's remaining group game against Ireland in Florida, Harbhajan expressed uncertainty about the team's potential performance.

“Pakistan now have a game against Ireland. Nothing can be said about which Pakistan we’ll get to see in the match,” he said.

The offbreak bowler concluded by reflecting on the reactions of Pakistan's cricketing legends to the team's poor performance, noting their dismay and concern over the current state of the team.

"If you talk about Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq and Inzamam ul Haq, the greats of Pakistan who have left a legacy behind them and they now talk about the team on social media because it is hard for them to watch the condition of the team. They lose to Ireland, the USA, and other teams that are not big names in the cricket world,” he concluded.
