A 16-member squad was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s selection committee for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Three uncapped players, including Usama, were named in the roster. Kamran Ghulam and Tayyab Tahir are the other two.
The Sialkot-born took 28 wickets in 11 matches in the recently concluded Pakistan Cup and was awarded Best Bowler of the Tournament. Usama was included in the squad as replacement for Shadab Khan, who has been ruled out due to finger injury.
Shadab said the injury is not serious and he will be back soon. “Unfortunately I have a small fracture in my finger, nothing serious, will be back within 3 weeks,” he wrote on Twitter.
Congratulations to all selected. Especially the new members. Looking forward to watching @iamusamamir in action I am a fan. Usama said that it was one of the best days of his life after the news of his selection came out. “So many messages and warm wishes. I wish I could thank you all but it is so difficult,” he said.
“One of the best days of my life. And the second will be when I wear the green shirt thank you everyone.”
