Usman, 31, played one ODI and 25 T20Is for Pakistan before retiring from national cricket last year due to lack of opportunities
Former Pakistan international cricketer Usman Qadir has expressed his strong desire to represent Australia, stating that he is putting in all his efforts to make it happen.
“Everything is going according to plan, and I am working hard to play for Australia. I will give it my all to represent the country,” he told a local news channel during a visit to Lahore.
Usman, 31, played one ODI and 25 T20Is for Pakistan before retiring from national cricket last year due to lack of opportunities. Following his retirement, he moved to Australia and began playing club cricket in Sydney as a first step toward his new cricketing journey.
Spending Ramadan and Eid in Lahore with family, Usman said, “I came to Pakistan to observe Ramadan and celebrate Eid with my family. Fasting in Pakistan has a special charm. I’ve never kept fasts abroad and can’t stay away from my family on such joyous occasions.”
Speaking about his move to Australia, Usman added, “Everything is under control, and things are progressing with a clear plan. Soon, I will be seen playing domestic cricket in Australia.”
Reflecting on his past, Usman shared that the decision to relocate was for the better future of himself and his family. “It was my father’s dream that I play for Pakistan, and I did. But then the circumstances changed—everyone knows what happened. I don't want to take names because speaking out doesn’t help here.”
He added, “Whether I get to play for Australia or not, I will still give my hundred percent. I want to show the world that I’m still good enough for international cricket. In Pakistan, injustice happens, while in Australia, decisions are made on performance and merit. In Pakistan’s team, players make comebacks without performing.”
Usman concluded with determination. “Now, I am fully focused on playing for Australia, and I will continue working hard to make it happen.”
