Because of the injury, his name was doubtful to remain in the squad and Fakhar Zaman took his place in the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup.

He was put on the reserve list of the players selected in the squad for the mega-event, along with Mohammad Haris and Shahnawaz Dahani.

It would now be only possible for Usman to play if any of the players in the 15-member squad is ruled out of the mega-event.
