While Kohli did not repeat his famous ‘Gangnam style’ dance from India’s 2013 Champions Trophy win, he still showed his playful side during the celebrations
Virat Kohli let loose and joined the celebrations after India’s victory over New Zealand in the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. The win marked Kohli’s fourth ICC title, having previously won the 2011 World Cup, nearly 14 years ago. At 36, Kohli is no longer the young cricketer he once was, but he remains a key veteran and one of the most respected players in the team.
While Kohli did not repeat his famous ‘Gangnam style’ dance from India’s 2013 Champions Trophy win, he still showed his playful side during the celebrations. In a viral video, Kohli can be seen having a great time, spraying champagne at teammate Rishabh Pant, who tried to duck and avoid the spray. Kohli was all smiles, clearly enjoying the moment. Soon after, fast bowler Harshit Rana joined the fun and turned the tables, spraying champagne back at Kohli.
During the 2013 Champions Trophy, Kohli had been the center of attention during the celebrations, leading the team’s exuberant display with his 'Gangnam style' dance moves and even doing push-ups in front of the team’s photographers. However, when asked about bringing back some of those same celebrations this time, Kohli made it clear that he wasn’t planning to repeat them.
Instead, Shreyas Iyer, who was the top run-scorer for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy, took on the role of the showman during the celebrations. Iyer entertained the team with his own dance moves. But the spotlight quickly shifted back to Kohli, who couldn’t resist joining in on the fun and spraying champagne on Pant.
Fans were delighted to see the 36-year-old Kohli embrace the celebration, showing that age hasn't slowed down his enthusiasm or love for the game. The video quickly went viral on social media, and cricket fans around the world expressed their joy at Kohli’s playful antics.
On the field, Kohli had an outstanding Champions Trophy campaign, enjoying a resurgence with the bat. His highlight was a brilliant century against Pakistan, which led India to victory in a tough chase. In the semi-final against Australia, Kohli played a crucial role in guiding India to victory with a composed knock of 84, helping to ease the pain of their defeat in November 2023.
Kohli ended the tournament with 218 runs at a strike rate of nearly 83, impressive numbers given the challenging conditions in Dubai.
