Former India batting coach Vikram Rathour is being considered for the position of the new head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

This potential change comes as the tenure of VVS Laxman, the current head of the NCA, approaches its conclusion.

VVS Laxman, who has been at the helm of the NCA, is reportedly not inclined to extend his contract. His term has seen various challenges and successes, including his role as India's interim head coach in several series.

Recently, Laxman led the Indian team to a convincing 4-1 victory in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Despite these achievements, the indications are that he may only continue in his current role after his contract ends.

In the wake of Laxman's impending departure, Vikram Rathour, who previously served as India's batting coach under Rahul Dravid and was part of the coaching team during the T20 World Cup victory, is emerging as the leading candidate for the NCA head position.

Rathour stepped down from his coaching role after the T20 World Cup triumph and is now a prominent figure in the discussions for the NCA leadership.

“It is very likely that you may see Rathour heading NCA. For now, a call on VVS Laxman’s contract renewal is pending, but the conversation from his side is not positive,” the source said.

The source further added, “Rathour might be asked to take charge at NCA. The BCCI secretary (Jay Shah), after the ICC meeting, is likely to have a word with VVS to understand his side.”
