The highly anticipated third season of South Africa's premier T20 league, SA20, is set to begin on January 9, 2025, with a thrilling opening match between the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and MI Cape Town at St. George's Park in Gqeberha.
The fixtures, recently unveiled, also confirm that the final will be held at the iconic Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on February 8, marking the venue's second time hosting the grand finale.
The runners-up from the previous seasons, Pretoria Capitals and Durban Super Giants, will lock horns at Kingsmead on January 10. The first Saturday of the tournament will feature an exciting doubleheader, with Paarl Royals facing the champions in the day's first game, followed by Joburg Super Kings taking on MI Cape Town under the lights at Newlands.
Following the 30 league matches, the top four teams will advance to the playoffs. Qualifier 1 is scheduled for February 4 in Gqeberha, while SuperSport Park in Centurion will make its post-league debut by hosting the Eliminator on February 5 and Qualifier 2 on February 6. The final will take place after a day's break, promising a thrilling conclusion to the tournament.
This season also sees the addition of several high-profile players. Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who chose to prioritize SA20 over his New Zealand Cricket central contract, will represent the Durban Super Giants.
The Paarl Royals have strengthened their squad with the inclusion of veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik and English cricket legend Joe Root, adding even more star power to the competition.
