Waqar Younis anticipates exciting Pakistan-India clash in Champions Trophy 2025

The much-anticipated clash between Pakistan and India in the ICC Champions Trophy is set to take place on February 23 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Speaking to the media in Abu Dhabi, former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis expressed excitement about the showdown, stating that the cricketing world is eagerly awaiting this high-stakes encounter.  

“I am confident the Dubai Cricket Stadium will be packed with fans, and we will witness a thrilling contest,” Waqar said.  

When asked about Shaheen Shah Afridi being rested during the Test series against South Africa and West Indies, Waqar supported the selectors' approach. “The policy of fielding players based on specific needs is absolutely right, in my opinion,” he remarked.  

The former star also praised Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, calling him an exceptional bowler. “He is not easy for any batter to face. The cricketing world needs players like him, and I hope he will be fully fit by the Champions Trophy,” Waqar added.  

Commenting on the International League T20 (ILT20), Waqar noted that the tournament is steadily improving with each edition. “This is the third season, and it keeps getting better every year. The quality of pitches has improved, offering more assistance to bowlers. The performances of UAE cricketers have also been impressive,” he said.  

Waqar highlighted the performance of Ali Khan Sharafu, who played a quick-fire innings in his team’s opening match. He concluded by stating that fans can look forward to witnessing quality cricket throughout the tournament.
