Former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis has officially stepped into his new role as the Advisor for Cricket Affairs to Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In today’s press conference, the PCB revealed three new tournaments for the Men's Domestic Cricket Season 2024-25.

The newly introduced Champions tournaments will feature five teams—Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions, and Wolves—in a double-league format for each event.

Waqar Younis shared his insights on the new initiatives and his vision for Pakistan cricket during the conference.

He revealed that five former cricket stalwarts would head these newly formed teams and serve on a cricket advisory board led by Waqar. This board will oversee all cricket-related issues.

“We will appoint five legends to head the teams and I am already in touch with some of them,” Waqar said.

"Cricket's current state is clear: improvements are necessary. While stadiums are important, our focus should be on enhancing the quality of play. Involving renowned cricketers and legends in the process is crucial. The Chairman's idea to involve these figures is excellent, and we've discussed it with some legends. We'll soon announce the names of those who will help advance the sport. I fully support this concept and hope it succeeds," he added.

The former head coach also said the main responsibility would be to ensure the Pakistan team's improved international performance.

"Cricket remains our product, and we have to play good cricket to maintain our brand. All rest comes later," he said.
