Former Pakistani cricketing legend Waqar Younis, who was part of the commentary panel for PSL 9, on Thursday shared some insightful suggestions with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi aimed at enhancing the league's future prospects.

Addressing the official PCB Chairman's handle on social media platform X, Waqar emphasized the need to expand the number of teams participating in the upcoming tenth edition of PSL in 2025.

In his message, Waqar highlighted that the current roster of six teams might be insufficient for a league of PSL's stature, advocating for an increase to at least eight teams by 2025. Additionally, he questioned the absence of women's matches in this year's PSL, pointing out the importance of showcasing women's cricket alongside the main event.

“Six teams too less for such a big brand. PSL deserves at least 8 teams in 2025. We had 3 women’s matches last year, what happened this year? Urdu commentary must have their own channel and setup,” Waqar wrote.

However, it's worth noting that an agreement signed in 2021 between the PCB and the franchises prohibits the addition of new teams until the completion of the tenth season in 2025, which may pose a challenge to implementing immediate changes.

Interestingly, Waqar's remarks echo sentiments previously expressed by Pakistan women's cricket team star Bismah Maroof, who advocated for the establishment of a women's cricket league akin to the PSL. Bismah expressed disappointment over the absence of exhibition matches for women cricketers during PSL 9, underscoring the significance of providing a platform for female players to showcase their talent.

“There are no exhibition matches for women cricketers in PSL 9, which is disappointing,” Bismah said while speaking to media.

“It is very important for women cricketers to have a league like the PSL. Last year, we had exhibition matches during the PSL and foreign players also participated. It was promised to hold our exhibition matches during the current season of the PSL, but unfortunately, our exhibition matches did not take place,” she added.
