Sundar aims to maintain his current momentum
India all-rounder Washington Sundar had an impressive performance against Zimbabwe in the third T20I in Harare. He took three important wickets, dismissing Sikandar Raza, Jonathan Campbell, and Clive Madande, while conceding just 15 runs in his four overs. His efforts helped India win the match by 23 runs and earned him the Player of the Match award.
This performance is a significant confidence boost for the 24-year-old, who has not been a regular in the Indian team. The selectors often chose Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel over him. However, with Jadeja's retirement from T20I cricket, there is now an opportunity for Sundar to secure his place in the squad.
Despite the opening, Sundar is not focused on replacing Jadeja. Instead, he is committed to giving his best whenever the national team needs him. He emphasizes the importance of preparation and effort.
“I need to do well where I am good at and what I am capable of, especially with my preparation. I need to give my 100 percent every single day. That's something that I have not compromised on,” Washington said in the post-match press conference .
Sundar aims to maintain his current momentum. Last season, Sunrisers Hyderabad favored Nitish Reddy over him in the Indian Premier League. He believes that consistent performance and hard work will lead to more opportunities.
“It (preparing well) keeps me in the present and obviously I am very confident as well (about his skills). It's a great opportunity for me to play for India, and I am blessed with it. I need to keep doing my job consistently, keep preparing, and keep getting better. That way everything will be taken care of,” he concluded.
