Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram has criticized the Men in Green following their exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup, which is currently being co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.
Pakistan's elimination was confirmed after the Group A match between co-hosts United States of America (USA) and Ireland was abandoned due to rain in Florida on Friday, June 14.
The washout raised the USA's points tally to five, while Pakistan remained at two points with only one match left against Ireland. Despite not fielding their strongest team, Pakistan was expected to advance easily from a group containing three non-ranked sides.
However, their plans were derailed by a super-over loss to the USA in their opening match. A win against arch-rivals India could have mitigated the damage, but they faltered to a six-run defeat from a winning position, leaving their fate dependent on other results.
"Congratulations to Team USA, they have done amazingly well," Wasim Akram said.
"When you talk about the globalization of the game, this is it, the USA qualifying for the Super 8s. They deserve it. They have beaten Pakistan in the round match, so they are there," he added.
"For Pakistan, what's the plan? EK-601 to Dubai and then to their respective cities, and then we see what happens from there onwards," he concluded.
It is worth noting that the Men in Green suffered defeats in their initial two ongoing tournament matches against co-hosts USA and arch-rivals India. Nonetheless, they secured a victory against Canada in their subsequent match. Their upcoming final group fixture is against Ireland on June 16 in Florida.
