Babar misjudged the delivery, allowing the ball to sneak under his bat and crash into the middle stumps
The inaugural edition of Pakistan's highly anticipated Champions One-Day Cup 2024 is all set to commence on September 12 in Faisalabad, with excitement building as players ramp up preparations for the competition.
Among those under the spotlight is Pakistan's white-ball skipper, Babar Azam, who is facing mounting scrutiny due to a recent dip in form in international cricket.
In a practice match ahead of the tournament, Babar Azam's woes continued as he suffered a rare and surprising dismissal, which has since gone viral on social media. The prolific batter, known for his exceptional technique, was clean-bowled by left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar.
Attempting a paddle sweep, Babar misjudged the delivery, allowing the ball to sneak under his bat and crash into the middle stumps.
The 29-year-old’s mistimed sweep only added to the pressure surrounding his form, particularly after a lackluster Test series at home against Bangladesh, where he failed to register a single fifty-plus score. His performance in the series also contributed to a notable drop in the ICC Test batters’ rankings, with Babar slipping to 12th place.
In the upcoming Champions One-Day Cup, Babar Azam will be representing the Stallions but will not be captaining the side. Instead, Mohammad Haris will lead the team as Babar focuses on regaining his form.
