Glenn Phillips once again showed his incredible fielding skills, taking a breathtaking catch to dismiss Shubman Gill in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

India had made a strong start while chasing 252, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill building a solid opening partnership of over 100 runs. However, Phillips’ brilliance in the field gave New Zealand their first breakthrough and brought them back into the game.

On the fourth ball of the 19th over, bowled by Mitchell Santner, Gill attempted a drive towards cover. The shot looked well-placed, but Phillips reacted quickly, diving through the air and grabbing the ball with one hand. The stunning catch left Gill in shock as he had to walk back after scoring 31 runs off 50 balls.

This was Phillips’ third incredible catch of the tournament. Earlier, he had taken brilliant catches to dismiss Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and India’s Virat Kohli.

The momentum shifted further in the next over when Michael Bracewell dismissed Virat Kohli for just one run. Kohli misjudged the delivery and was struck on the pads. The umpire immediately gave him out, and after consulting Rohit Sharma, Kohli decided to review the decision. However, replays confirmed the on-field call, and Kohli had to walk back.

Kohli needed 46 runs in this match to become the leading run-scorer in Champions Trophy history. A score of 55 would have also made him the second-highest run-scorer in ODIs, surpassing Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.

Earlier in the match, New Zealand opted to bat first and posted 251/7 in their 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell was their top scorer, while India’s Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each.
