The third ODI between Pakistan and South Africa at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 12 was filled with drama, with key moments that shifted the course of the match.

One of the most significant events came when South Africa's captain, Temba Bavuma, was run out after a misjudged single. Bavuma, who had been in excellent form, was leading his team’s batting efforts when disaster struck in the 29th over.

Bavuma played a length delivery to backward point and called for a quick single. However, his batting partner hesitated, leaving Bavuma stranded in the middle of the pitch. Saud Shakeel, positioned at backward point, reacted swiftly and threw the ball directly at the stumps. Bavuma was well short of his crease when the bails were dislodged, and the umpire confirmed his dismissal. The South African captain was out for 82 runs, missing out on what could have been a much-needed century for his team.

The moment Bavuma was dismissed, the Pakistan fielders erupted in celebration, but Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam took it a step further. The two players directed their celebrations towards Bavuma as he walked off the field. Shakeel, in particular, was seen celebrating passionately, staring down the South African captain in what appeared to be an intense moment of emotion.

Before Bavuma's run out, there was another fiery moment involving Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi and South Africa's Matthew Breetzke. The tension began in the 28th over of the match when Shaheen and Breetzke exchanged words on the penultimate ball. It appeared Shaheen was frustrated with Breetzke taking a run in the middle of the pitch, prompting intervention from Mohammad Rizwan, Temba Bavuma, and the on-field umpire to settle the situation.

The altercation reignited after the final ball of the over, when Shaheen charged towards Breetzke. Replays showed that Breetzke, who had hit a shorter delivery from Shaheen towards deep square leg, attempted to avoid a collision with the bowler while running for a single. However, he bumped into Shaheen, further irritating the Pakistan pacer. Fellow Pakistani player Khushdil Shah rushed in to push Breetzke away, and the umpire once again stepped in to calm the situation.

Despite all the drama, South Africa is in a solid position in the match, having put 352 on the board. Pakistan now needs to chase down the mammoth total to secure a spot in the final of the Tri-Nation Series.
