Mumbai witnessed an extraordinary celebration as India’s cricket heroes, led by captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli, showcased the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in a grand victory parade. The festivities took place on an open-top bus, starting from the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) and winding its way through the bustling streets of the city.
Thousands of fans lined the parade route, eagerly awaiting a glimpse of their victorious team. As the bus moved slowly along Marine Drive, fans illuminated the scene with their phone torches, creating a mesmerizing display that matched the jubilant mood. The atmosphere was electric, with chants of "India, India" echoing through the streets, embodying the nation's pride and excitement.
Initially set to start at around 5 PM, the parade was delayed due to the team's late arrival from the Caribbean, where they were delayed by Hurricane Beryl. Despite this, the parade commenced later than planned, but the delay did not dampen the spirits of the fans or the grandeur of the event.
The journey culminated at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, where a grand celebration awaited the team. The stadium was packed with enthusiastic supporters who had gathered to share in the triumph and cheer for their cricketing idols. The celebration at Wankhede included a felicitation ceremony, where the players were honored for their remarkable achievement.
Earlier on Thursday, the team arrived at Delhi airport from the Caribbean and was greeted with loud cheers and chants. Later, they had the honor of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The players, dressed in their Indian jerseys emblazoned with "Champions," posed for photographs with the Prime Minister and had a brief chat with him. The meeting added a significant note of recognition and national pride to the day's celebrations.
