Abrar’s remarkable deliveries against New Zealand’s Devon Conway and India’s Shubman Gill stood out
The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the top 10 deliveries from the recently concluded Champions Trophy 2025 on Monday, with four of the best coming from Pakistani bowlers.
Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed made two appearances in the list, while pace bowlers Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi each earned one spot.
Abrar’s remarkable deliveries against New Zealand’s Devon Conway and India’s Shubman Gill stood out. Shaheen Afridi’s dismissal of Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Naseem Shah’s brilliant delivery to dismiss Kane Williamson were recognized among the top 10.
However, despite their individual moments of brilliance, Naseem and Shaheen’s overall performances in the tournament fell short of expectations. The pace trio struggled in the two matches they played against New Zealand and India, giving away runs at an expensive rate.
Shaheen Afridi had a particularly tough time against New Zealand, conceding 68 runs off his 10 overs without taking a wicket, finishing with an economy rate of 6.80. Against India, he bowled eight overs, giving away 74 runs while picking up two wickets at an economy rate of 9.25.
Similarly, Naseem Shah bowled 10 overs against New Zealand, conceding 63 runs while taking two wickets. However, in the match against India, he went wicketless, giving away 37 runs in his eight overs.
Haris Rauf was Pakistan’s most expensive bowler against New Zealand, conceding 83 runs in his 10 overs while taking two wickets. Against India, he failed to take a wicket, giving away 52 runs in seven overs.
In the final, India defeated New Zealand to lift the Champions Trophy. India successfully chased down New Zealand’s target of 252 with four wickets in hand and one over to spare, securing their third Champions Trophy title, having previously won in 2002 and 2013.
India’s victory in the Champions Trophy was followed by their triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they defeated South Africa in the final, further solidifying their dominance in international cricket.
