Shaheen Afridi faced a tough time against the New Zealand batters.
New Zealand secured another comfortable win over Pakistan in the second T20I of the five-match series, claiming a six-wicket victory in Dunedin. The match, reduced to 15 overs per side due to rain, saw Pakistan post 135/9, but the hosts chased it down with ease.
Pakistan’s bowling attack struggled once again, with even star pacer Shaheen Afridi facing a tough time against the New Zealand batters. Shaheen conceded 31 runs in his three overs, with 24 of those coming in a single over against wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert. Seifert launched an aggressive assault, smashing four sixes off Shaheen, including a massive 119-meter hit.
Despite the loss, Pakistan showed some improvement compared to the first match. Captain Salman Agha acknowledged this in the post-match presentation, highlighting the better batting and fielding performance. However, he stressed the need for a stronger powerplay effort from both the batting and bowling units.
“It was freezing. It was a good game compared to the last game. We batted better. Fielding was outstanding. Bowling in patches was good. The bounce we need to understand is different. After powerplay, we bowled well. Haris bowled well. We need to be better in the powerplay. As a batting unit, we need to have better powerplay. And same as a bowling unit as well,” Salman said.
With Pakistan now trailing 0-2 in the series, they must win the next match to stay in contention.
