Skipper Shoaib Malik’s all-round display helped Guyana Amazon Warriors register a 77-run victory over Jamaica Tallawahs on Thursday in the 2019 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Warriors had slumped to 8 for 4 inside the first two overs, before Malik and left-hand batsman Sherfane Rutherford recovered the innings with their 82-run partnership.

Rutherford departed after scoring 45 runs, but Malik’s unbeaten knock of 73 from 45 balls propelled Warriors to a score of 156-6 in their allotted 20 overs. His innings included five fours and two sixes.

In reply, the Tallawahs kept losing wickets at regular intervals throughout the chase.

Malik combined with Rutherford again, to claim the wicket of tailender Zahir Khan to finish Tallawahs innings at 79 runs.

The 37-year-old was adjudged player of the match for his impressive performance.

Warriors have already qualified for the playoffs and are yet to lose a match this season under Malik’s captaincy.
