Previously, Imam ul Haq felt the need not to resort to any experimentation with the playing XI ahead of the 2023 World Cup
After Imam ul Haq, Pakistan all-rounder, Shadab Khan, expressed his opinion regarding the changes in the playing XI and stated that there is not enough time window available to jumble up the squad and try out different players - particularly when the mega tournaments are hanging over our heads.
The 24-year-old, while talking to a local sports channel, accentuated the fact that tournaments are all about how a player's performance is going to collectively benefit the team, which certainly gives you an edge.
“Selectors must better know about the squad, but I believe as a player, in my opinion, when you get regular opportunities, you perform better. Along with that, we don't have enough time to shuffle or make frequent changes. We should go with the same team for the World Cup or Asia Cup because this team is gelled and has been performing consistently," Shadab said.
“The confidence that comes with good performance is different and boosts your morale extensively. Almost every player in the squad has performed well, and when you participate in any big tournament with a same combination of players, then your overall performance as a unit leaves a robust impact on the field," he added.
After the third ODI during the recently-concluded New Zealand series, Imam made headlines as he said that the Men in Green doesn’t have many matches left to experiment with their playing XI ahead of the 2023 World Cup. Hence, he shunned the idea of including power-hitters like Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Haris in the lower-middle order.
However, in the fourth ODI, Imam was himself dropped and Iftikhar and Haris got an opportunity to play in the same game. He was also benched for the last ODI of the series.
