Sherfane Rutherford’s maiden ODI century powered West Indies to a remarkable five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in St Kitts, breaking their 11-match losing streak against the visitors. Chasing 295, Rutherford’s blistering 113 off 80 balls, including seven fours and eight sixes, turned the tide for the hosts.

Despite losing early wickets and requiring 161 runs off the last 19 overs, Rutherford and captain Shai Hope (86 off 88) stitched a 99-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Justin Greaves then chipped in with a quick-fire 41* off 31 balls, sealing the win with 14 balls to spare.

Bangladesh earlier posted 294/6, anchored by Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 74 and Tanzid Hasan’s 60. Romario Shepherd led the West Indies bowlers with figures of 3/51.

The win gives West Indies a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the next match set to be played on Tuesday.
