In a thrilling encounter at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia, the West Indies showcased their dominance by defeating Afghanistan by a massive 104-run margin in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the West Indies put up a formidable total of 218-5 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to a scintillating innings by Nicholas Pooran. Pooran's spectacular knock of 98 runs off just 53 balls, comprising six boundaries and eight towering sixes, set the stage for a commanding performance by the Windies.

In response, Afghanistan faced a daunting task of chasing down 219 runs. However, their batting lineup faltered under pressure, managing only 114 runs before being bowled out in 16.2 overs. Obed McCoy led the bowling attack for the West Indies, claiming impressive figures of 3-14, while Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein supported with two wickets each.

Despite a valiant effort by Ibrahim Zadran, who scored 38 runs at the top of the order for Afghanistan, the team struggled to build partnerships and succumbed to the Windies' bowling prowess.

With this victory, the West Indies reaffirmed their status as a formidable force in the tournament, while Afghanistan will look to regroup and bounce back stronger in the upcoming matches.

It's worth noting that both teams had already secured their spots in the Super 8 stage after winning their initial three matches in Group C. Additionally, the West Indies made a strategic change in their lineup, with Romario Shepherd temporarily leaving the squad for personal reasons and being replaced by Obed McCoy, who made a significant impact with his bowling performance.
