The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has announced that the world’s top-ranked T20I bowler, Akeal Hosein, has signed up for the player draft for the league’s 10th edition. The announcement was made on Thursday through the PSL's social media platforms, featuring a video of the West Indian spinner’s best moments from previous seasons.
“The No. 1 T20I Bowler in the World joins the fray! West Indies spin magician Akeal Hosein enters the HBL PSL Draft,” read the announcement.
Akeal, 31, has been a key player for the West Indies in T20Is, representing his country in 67 matches. He has previously played in two PSL seasons, representing Multan Sultans in 2023 and Quetta Gladiators in 2024.
One of Akeal’s standout achievements in the PSL is his hat-trick against Peshawar Zalmi while playing for the Gladiators. This feat places him among the only six bowlers in PSL history to take a hat-trick. Across 13 PSL matches, he has taken 16 wickets with an average of 25.37 and an economy rate of 7.96.
Akeal has also played in other major franchise leagues worldwide, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL), and The Hundred.
The PSL 10 draft is set to take place in Balochistan for the first time, with Gwadar hosting the event on January 11, 2025. Akeal is the third West Indian and the 31st foreign player to register for this year’s draft.
The pick order for the draft has already been announced. Two-time champions Lahore Qalandars will have the first pick in the platinum category, followed by Karachi Kings. Quetta Gladiators will pick third, with Peshawar Zalmi in fourth. Multan Sultans, last season’s runners-up, will pick fifth, and defending champions Islamabad United will round off the order in sixth.
