West Indies made a strong push on the third morning of the second Test against England at Trent Bridge, thanks to Joshua Da Silva's resilient half-century and a late flurry from Shamar Joseph.

Da Silva, who was unbeaten on 32 overnight, added 50 runs to his tally to remain not out on 82. He played a crucial role in a 71-run partnership with Shamar Joseph for the 10th wicket. Joseph, who contributed 33 runs off 27 balls, was dismissed on the final ball of an extended first session, with West Indies moving ahead by 41 runs.

England's Chris Woakes was the standout bowler for the hosts, claiming three wickets on the day. He made an early breakthrough with the second new ball, dismissing Jason Holder, who added just four runs to his overnight score. Woakes also took out Kevin Sinclair and had a chance at a hat-trick, but Shamar Joseph survived the hat-trick ball.

Mark Wood, who had struggled with cramps the previous day, returned to the field and took the final wicket of the innings. Despite his high-paced efforts, Wood's previous overs had yielded no wickets.

West Indies' batting, led by Kavem Hodge’s century and Alick Athanaze’s 82 on the second day, showed resilience. Da Silva brought up his fifty with a stylish shot off Wood, while Joseph's powerful hitting helped West Indies surpass England's first-innings total of 416. Joseph's aggressive play included a six and a four in quick succession, which pushed West Indies to a 10-run lead.

Da Silva added further runs with a flurry of boundaries, including three consecutive fours and a six off Joe Root’s over. However, Wood eventually claimed Shamar Joseph's wicket with a leading edge that was caught at mid-on by Gus Atkinson.

As play resumed after the drinks break, West Indies were firmly in control, leading by 41 runs with Da Silva still at the crease. England will need a strong response in their second innings to regain the initiative in this closely contested match.
