The Indian cricket team has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing the number of victories in Test matches over defeats for the first time in history. This achievement comes after a lengthy wait of 92 years, as India defeated Bangladesh by a staggering 280 runs in the first Test of a two-match series, taking a 1-0 lead.

India's journey in Test cricket began in 1932 under the captaincy of C. K. Nayudu, who faced a defeat against England by 158 runs in their inaugural match. Since that moment, the team struggled to balance its victory-to-defeat ratio until now. With this recent victory, India has secured 179 wins and faced 178 defeats in a total of 581 Test matches.

In comparison, Pakistan achieved this milestone in just 16 matches following their entry into Test cricket, while other teams have done so in varying timelines. Australia celebrated this honor in their very first match, Afghanistan in just 3 matches, England in 23, the West Indies in 99, and South Africa in 340 matches.

The statistics highlight the competitive landscape of Test cricket. As of now, Pakistan has 148 victories and 144 defeats, Australia boasts 414 wins against 232 losses, while England has claimed 397 victories with 325 defeats. South Africa has achieved 179 wins and faced 161 defeats.

In the recent Test match, India set a daunting target of 515 runs for Bangladesh, who were eventually bowled out for 234 runs. Star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin delivered an exceptional performance, taking 6 wickets in the final innings, while Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with 3 wickets. Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto fought valiantly, scoring 82 runs off 127 balls, but could not steer his team to victory.
