During their tour of Australia, the Indian cricket team decided to impose a ban on open training sessions
During their tour of Australia, the Indian cricket team decided to impose a ban on open training sessions, a move that will apply to the entire series in Australia.
In Adelaide, over 5,000 fans gathered to watch the Indian team’s training session, with many cheering for their favorite stars, including Virat Kohli, throughout the practice. This large crowd and the continuous loud chants seemed to disrupt the players' focus during training.
The Indian players reportedly felt uncomfortable in the open training session, with the situation further worsened by fans attempting to take selfies with the players.
A spokesperson for Cricket Australia explained that India had expressed their preference to avoid open sessions for the remainder of their training. According to the spokesperson, the Indian team decided against open sessions due to the distractions caused by noise and factors that disrupted the players' focus. From now on, only the media will be allowed to cover the Indian team’s training sessions.
Indian batter KL Rahul, when asked about the open training sessions, stated that it was a new experience for them and they were not accustomed to it. He explained that in home games, practice sessions are usually held in front of the public, especially for T20 and ODI formats.
It’s worth noting that Melbourne’s iconic MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) traditionally hosts open training sessions, as the nets are located outside the stadium. This open practice session with the arrival of fans has become a tradition in Australia.
